Two-factor authentication adds additional security to your account by requiring you to enter a 6-digit code which you retrieve on a mobile device which you own, such as a mobile phone or tablet. This ensures that if someone comes to learn your password, they will still need access to your chosen device in order to get into your account.
If you use the easyMoney App, two-factor authentication will automatically be setup for your account via SMS, you will see this screen when you log into the App:
To enable two-factor authentication online, or to change the method of two-factor authentication to use an application, log in to your account and then go to ‘My Account’ in the top right-hand menu and then ‘My Details’. If you scroll down to the bottom of the settings, there will be a section for ‘Two-factor authentication’.
Click the ‘ENABLE’ button.
You will then be asked to choose how to retrieve your 6-digit code. The two options are using a 3rd party mobile application such Twilio Authy or Google Authenticator, or retrieving the code by SMS (text message). We recommend using one of the below mobile applications as they are generally considered safer than SMS.
Using an application
To Install ‘Twilio Authy’ or ‘Google Authenticator’ onto your smartphone or tablet, search for one of them on either the App Store or Google Play store depending on whether you are using an iOS or Android device.
Once installed, you will be asked to scan the QR code we display on the screen. On newer phones this is simply a case of pointing the camera at the code on the screen.
The below picture is for example only:
If you are unable to scan the QR code, you can choose to enter your secret key, which is shown below the QR code.
Once scanned or entered you will be asked to enter the 6-digit code which appears in the application.
From now on, you will be asked to enter a 6-digit code whenever you log into your easyMoney account. You will always need to get the code from your authenticator application.
Troubleshooting for using an Authentication App with the easyMoney App
If you log into the easyMoney App and need to add the code, you may encounter an issue where the keypad to enter the code isn't available once you have visited the app to copy the code. If this happens, please use the < in the top left to go back a screen, then go to the App, write down or memorise the 6 digits, go back to the easyMoney App and click the Continue button, then type in the code.
Please remember the code is only valid for 30 seconds, so you need to be quick. Or wait for the new code to appear.
Using SMS (text message)
If you choose SMS to receive your codes by SMS (text message), you will need to enter a valid mobile number on the setup screen.
This mobile number must include the country code of where your mobile number is based, for example the UK would be +44.
You will then be sent a text message containing the 6-digit code which you will need to enter on the confirmation screen. If the SMS does not arrive after 60 seconds, you can request to have it resent.
Once confirmed, we will then send you a text message with the code whenever you login in the future.
Troubleshooting for using SMS (text message)
You will not receive the SMS if your phone has no network connection. Please ensure that you have coverage when logging in.
What to do if it's not working at all
If you are having issues with the 2FA and the codes aren't coming through, or you have lost or replaced your phone, you will need to call our Client Services team and get them to reset it for you. The team are available Monday to Friday 08:30 to 17:30 UK time except for bank holidays.
The number to call on is: +44 203 858 7269
You'll need to go through some security questions and then it can be reset.
